About MOBC

The Department for the Welfare of Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC), Government of Manipur was established in 1998 by the State Government to protect the interest of Minority and OBC communities in the State. Matters related to Scheduled Castes have been transferred to MOBC Department from the Tribal Affairs & Hills Department (TAH) during 2017-18 and the department was re-designated as Department of MOBC & SC. The Department of MOBC&SC, Manipur has been further bifurcated into the following departments vide Government Order No. 36/3/2016-CON dated 18th May, 2018:

The Directorate of Minority Affairs and the Directorate for the Welfare of Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes.

The main objective for the establishment of the Directorate for the Welfare of Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes is to take up measures to protect the interests of the OBC and SC Communities and also to take up Welfare programmes/schemes for them in the State. The Vision of the Directorate is to improve the socio-economic conditions of these communities through affirmative action and inclusive development so that every citizen has equal opportunity to participate actively in building a vibrant nation. The Directorate will facilitate an equitable share for OBC and SC communities in education, employment, economic activities and to ensure their upliftment.

Aligned with the objective of MOBC Classic Hospitality Training Institute had conducted “THREE MONTHS TRAINING COURSE” in different job roles under MOBC programme of Skill Development in Tourism & Hospitality Sector in the year 2016. A total number of 115 candidates from various parts of the state had successfully completed their training in different departments.

The flagship programme was sponsored by Department for Welfare of Minorities and Other Backward Classes, Manipur for the welfare of Minorities and OBCs.  The main objective of the programme was to provide short term job oriented courses. The training programme was a success story amongst the youth of the state as they were well placed at various esteem organizations.
